DUFC 51 – 5 Wexford Wanderers
DUFC’s Women’s Team entered their final match of the Leinster League Division 3 season needing a win to escape bottom position and move up to seventh in the table. They achieved this aim in emphatic style beating a Wexford Wanderers side 51-5. The improvement in the team through the season is most obviously illustrated by the fact that Wexford won the reverse fixture in October 41-0.
On a beautiful sunny day in Monkstown FC, Trinity played some great attacking rugby in the club’s signature running style. This was coupled with some dogged defending. Tries came from Fiona Tuite (5), Niamh O’Kelly-Lynch (2), Genevieve Ruesch and Dia O’Rourke. It was truly a team effort and the students showed how much they had improved in several aspects of the game, in particular handling, tackling and ball-carrying.
This allows the team to stay up in Leinster Division 3 having been promoted from Division 4 last season. They now have a Leinster cup and the upcoming Colours match in College Park against UCD to focus on. If they keep improving at this rate, no one will stop them!
