Captain – Michael Courtney

Centre // 6’0 // 94kg
Studying: Mechanical Engineering
School/Club: CBC Monkstown
Honours: Leinster U18s, U19s, U20s & Ireland U18s, Clubs, Unis
Michael is an old head in the team nowadays. However this hasn’t hindered his obsession with all things union. His questionable barnets make sure he stands out on and off the pitch. A big part of DUFC over the last few years, Mick now steps up to captain the side. Michael’s personality and ability to build a culture bodes for on pitch performances but also the ‘Xico Deece’ exploits on the social side. With a nice step and a flavoursome fend, which has left many peeling themselves off the College Park turf, Mick poses a threat to any defence.

Joe Horan

Hooker // 5’9 // 96kg
Studying: Law & Political Science
School/Club: Blackrock College
Joe’s season was unfortunately cut very short as a result of a torn ACL, but since his operation he has worked tirelessly to get himself back in the white jersey. Joe is a pocket rocket on the pitch with his dynamic carrying and defence. His sense of humour is second to none, with his one liners gathering all the laughs.

Fintan Murphy

Prop // 6’1 // 116kg
Studying: Mathematics
School/Club: Davitt College
Honours: Connacht U19s
The youngest alickadoo Trinity Rugby has ever had. Fintan’s passion for DUFC is only second to his love for pints. A man that will never take a step back on and off the pitch, he could rattle any ref and opposing team with his carrying and abuse. The man from the west has adopted the Dublin lingo throwing in comments like ‘that’s loose’ and ‘key’ into every sentence. Fintan will bring 2 years of senior experience to the team and is hoping to claim the No. 3 jersey as his own.

Billy O’Hora

Wing // 5’10 // 95 kg
Studying: BESS
School/Club: Crescent Comprehensive College
Honours: Munster U18s, U19s
Billy is fresh off his trip to New Zealand with the Lions. The ‘ambassador’ comes back heavier and wider than ever before, he may have to cover the front row at stages in the season. Billy had a very strong season with the U20s and announced himself to the AIL with a stunning performance down in Cork Con. His pace and power is second to none like his social media behaviour with his other half.

Dave St Leger

Flanker // 6’0 // 95kg
Studying: Medicinal Chemistry
School/Club: Presentation College Cork
Honours: Munster U18s, U19s, U20s
David suffered a disrupted season with multiple injuries. ‘Ledgey’ was a key member of the 2015/16 U20 squad that won the JP Fanagan league for the first time ever. His destructive carrying still gives Joey Carberry nightmares. His standards on the dance floor lack vision and sense, he only plays on ‘2s and 3s’.

Sam Pim

Flanker // 6’3 // 100kg
Studying: BESS
School/Club: Kilkenny College
Honours: Leinster U20s
Sam is coming off the back of a very successful stint in the second row with Queensland University. Sam was a standout player for DUFC in the opening half of the season, he puts his head in places where most people don’t while also bringing an array of skills. He has been given the vice-captain role along with Jack Burke for the forthcoming season. Sam has physically developed from a string bean into a fine second row. Pim has a lot to learn in the art of drinking, hopefully his seniority will aid this.

Roghan McMahon

Roghan McMahon

No. 8 // 5’11 // 90kg
Studying: Computer Science and Business
School/Club: Blackrock College
Honours: Leinster U19s
Ro is playing his first year with the senior squad having played 2 years of 20s and also captaining the side last year. His pace and agility reminds us of a certain Brian Du Toit. He is a hard-working back row who loves to get stuck in. We look forward to Ro putting on the white jersey in the season to come.

Darragh Higgins

Darragh Higgins
Prop // 6’1 // 112kg
Studying: Philosophy
School/Club: St. Andrews College
The Greystones native was another key member of the 2015/16 JP Fanagan squad. ‘Higgy’ is coming of the back of a strong season with the J1, helping them to promotion to the Metro 1 league. He has an engine unlike most other front row that allows him to last the full 80 minutes. Higgy will aim to compete with Shane and Fintan for the number 3 jersey.

Maurice Buckley

Hooker // 5’10 // 97kg
Studying: Computer Science
School/Club: Blackrock College
‘Mo’ always seems to have a smile on his face. He has had a very strong pre-season and is looking to push on in the Leinster league games. Mo was an integral part of the J1 team last year with his carrying and darts. Hopefully this season he’ll finally move out of his older brother’s shadow.

Michael Silvester

Wing/Fullback // 5’11 // 85kg
Studying: BESS
School/Club: Clongowes Wood College
Honours: Leinster U18s, U19s, U20s & Ireland U19s, U20s
Silvo is coming into this season off the back of a very successful season for the U20s and First XV. His performances for DUFC earned him a late call up to the Irish U20s for the Junior World Cup in Georgia. His silky running and lighting pace will add flare to DUFC’s counter attack. Silvo’s versatility will also be of benefit to the first XV as he can play all across the back three.

Tommy Whittle

Out-Half // 5’11 // 85kg
Studying: Economics
School/Club: St. Gerard’s
Honours: Leinster U18s, U19s, U20s
Twittle is returning for his 4th year with the Senior team, he is one of the most experienced players in the squad. He lives on the gain line and possess the vision to put his team-mates in space. His game management will be vital in close games this season, especially his kicking game. A self-confessed ladies’ man, Twits doesn’t quite bring the accuracy he has on the pitch into his dating life.

Vittorio Mantegazza

Second Row // 6’5 // 102kg
Studying: English
School/Club: Blackrock College
Honours: Italy U20s
The ‘Italian Stallion’ is back for his second season with DUFC and is looking to progress into the Senior XV having gathered experience training with the Italy A squad. Vitto is a serious lineout operator and loves to carry the ball. Vitto’s love for Union is closely followed by busting a few moves on the dancefloor in Diceys.

Will Ben Simms

Centre // 5’11 // 88kg
Studying: BESS
School/Club: Kansas City Blues
Will is looking to build on his performances with the J1 last season and push for the Senior XV. The Kansas City native has finally settled on a position after starting his DUFC career at scrum-half. He brings power to the centre and always looks to go forward. Will has a soft spot for the Pav breakfast and can always be found tucking into a full Irish after a gym session.

Jack Burke

Second Row // 6’3 // 105kg
Studying: M.Sc. Biotherapeutics & Business Graduate
School/Club: Blackrock College
Honours: Irish Uni’s
Jack is ‘Mr. Trinity Rugby’ and has been a true leader of the Senior XV over the last few seasons. His selfless work rate is a testament to his dedication to DUFC. He is an athletic second row that loves to carry and dominates the air. Jack hasn’t missed an AIL game in the last two seasons, he is ‘Mr. Consistent’. After a great win in College Park, ‘Burkey’ can be found in McDonalds on Grafton Street circa 2am.

Bryan Mollen

Wing // 6’1 // 93kg
Studying: Stats and Economics (UCD)
School/Club: Blackrock College
Honours: Ireland 7s & Uni’s
Bryan is fresh off the back of playing for the Ireland 7s this summer. This is Bryan’s fourth year with the Senior XV and he is looking to bring that experience to this seasons squad. ‘The Flying Dutchman’ has a quick turn of pace and possesses the high ball skills required in Division 1A. Bryan can often be seen flaunting his DUFC kit throughout the Belfield campus.

Kyle Dixon

Centre // 6’2 // 102kg
Studying: Sports Therapy
School/Club: Blackrock College
Honours: Leinster U20s & Irish Uni’s
Kyle was one of only a few players to play every AIL game last year, he provides consistent go-forward ball off lineout. Despite his size, his silky hands can put his fellow backs in space. Off the pitch, Kyle never stops talking about his relationship and loves to display it all over his social media outlets.

Brian Slater

Scrum-Half // 5’10 // 84kg
Studying: Physiotherapy
School/Club: CBC Cork
Honours: Munster U19s, U20s, A & Ireland Clubs, Unis
‘Slates’ is the Grandad of the senior squad, he recently celebrated his 40th birthday playing bingo with his buddies. Brian captained last season’s squad and has years of experience under his belt. He is an unconventional scrum-half that always looks to attack the line and has a love for contact. Let’s hope Slates can make it to the end of the season without keeling over!

James Fennelly

Out-Half // 6’0 // 73kg
Studying: BESS
School/Club: Blackrock College
‘Fenners’ was thrown into the deep end last season when both senior out-halves were injured, and he stepped up to the plate. He looks like he belongs in a skate park with his long locks and not on a rugby pitch. His chilled-out approach to the game allows him to put players in space and throw outrageous offloads that have earned him the nickname ‘The Prince’.

James Bollard

Prop // 6’1 // 109kg
Studying: Business Management
School/Club: St. Michaels College
Honours: Leinster U18s & U20s, Ireland 20s & Unis
James is one of the most active men in the Senior squad Whatsapp group, his banter is somewhat weak though. ‘Bolly’ is a dynamic loose head prop that loves a big hit in the middle of the field. He is looking to fill the boots of ‘The Viking’ and there is no doubt he will flourish in the number 1 jersey. Apart from playing rugby, Bolly loves flaunting his other half to the lads.

Johnny McKeown

Flanker // 5’11 // 91kg
Studying: Economics and History
School/Club: Ballymena Academy
Honours: Ulster 18s & Ireland 18s
Johnny is a powerful Backrow with the pace of an outside back. Hailing from Ballymena R.F.C, the Ulster and Ireland under 18 vice-captain showed huge promise as a first year which has earned him a place in the senior squad for the upcoming season. Johnny has had a great pre-season and will look to stake a claim for the openside jersey.

James Hickey

Centre // 6’0 // 91kg
Studying: Engineering
School/Club: St. Michael’s College
Honours: Leinster U18s & U19s
James may still only be 19 years old but already has 1st XV caps as a freshman. He is a hard-hitting centre that loves to throw a skip pass off either hand. The St. Michael’s man has been involved in several Leinster underage sides and is the latest addition to the growing group of ‘Swords’ in DUFC.

Fiachra Keane

Prop // 6’0 // 102kg
Studying: BESS
School/Club: Gonzaga College

Fiachra is the latest Zaga man to join the Senior XV. He started his DUFC Career as a back-row but has blossomed since converting to prop last year. The second year BESS student has returned for preseason in formidable shape and hopes to break into the 1st XV this season.

Evan Dixon

Wing // 6’1 // 98kg
Studying: Sports Management Graduate
School/Club: Navan
Honours: Ireland 7s
Evan is starting his second season with DUFC and is looking to cement a place in the First XV. He is a hard-running winger that loves a good man-and-ball tackle. Ev picked up vital First XV experience last year which will stand to him for this coming year, as well as featuring for the Ireland 7s team during the summer. Evan’s nickname is ‘Cheese’ and he loves to tell the story of how he got it, so feel free to ask him.

Toby Boyd

Flanker // 6’0 // 95kg
Studying: BESS
School/Club: RBAI
Honours: Ulster U19s & U20s
Toby is back playing with DUFC after a year down under on Erasmus, and he is looking to pick up where he left off where he was part of the JP Fanagan winning U20 team. Toby is a scavenger on the ground and loves to torment opposition rucks. Tobes will be looking to earn his first Senior XV cap and bring his dynamic style of play into the UBL. He is an avid GAA fan and often attends Croke Park for the All Ireland games.

Kevin O’Connor

Flanker // 6’1 // 92kg
Studying: MSc International Business Management
School/Club: St. Mary’s College
Honours: Collegiate All-American First XV
Kevin joins DUFC to undergo a masters in business. Kev has played his rugby at St. Mary’s College in California for the past few years, the same college that Tim Maupin hailed from. He is a hard hitting back row that loves to carry at every opportunity, his skills are exceptional for a forward, thanks to his time playing sevens in America. We look forward to Kevin playing for the Senior XV this season.

Angus Lloyd

Scrum-Half // 5’7 // 78kg
Studying: Medicine
School/Club: Blackrock College
Honours: Leinster U20s, Munster Seniors & A, Ulster Seniors & A, Ireland Clubs
Angus is returning to Trinity Rugby after a year of travelling through the Provincial setups, earning a Champions Cup cap for Munster in the process. Gus will bring heaps of experience to the Senior squad. His work rate on the pitch is second to none, his bullet pass will look to put forwards in space. Munster’s loss is DUFC’s gain and we are delighted to have Angus back on board for one more season.

Alexander MacDonald

Second-Row // 6’2 // 98kg
Studying: MSc Positive Coaching Psychology
School/Club: Life University
Alex hails from Life University in Georgia, the same college that AJ MacGinty attended. Life is one of the top Rugby Universities in America so we know Alex will bring quality to the Senior squad. He is a lineout technician as well as a ball carrier around the pitch.

Niall O’Riordan

No. 8 // 5’11 // 100kg
Studying: MSIS
School/Club: Castleknock College
‘Noffer’ is the hard man of the Senior squad, he would run into a brick wall for you. He is a go-to ball carrier that loves to run over out-halves. Niall is a quiet man off the pitch but loves a good night out in Diceys after a win.

Patrick Nulty

Flanker // 6’0 // 90kg
Studying: MSIS
School/Club: Clongowes Wood College
Patrick is coming off an impressive season with the under 20s as a freshman which has earned him a position on the senior squad for the 2017/18 season. Known within the squad as “the second coming of Sam Pim”, Nulty uses his unique blend of power and speed to beat defenders of any size from any position on the field.

Patrick Finlay

Hooker // 5’10 // 100kg
Studying: Computer Engineering Graduate
School/Club: Gonzaga College
Honours: Canada U20s, Ulster U20s, Ireland Clubs & Unis, Leinster A
Patrick is returning for his fifth season with Trinity rugby. The multi-talented hooker has been an integral part of the Senior XV for the past few seasons. His refusal to take a step backwards has led to barnstorming runs in the past and we expect nothing less this season. His work rate and power are his major strengths and his one weakness is his online dating skills. Patrick is a massive advocate of burritos and milk, he has taken a residence in Tolteca for the last 4 years.

Shane Byrne

Prop // 6’0 // 114kg
Studying: Business Management
School/Club: Wicklow RFC
Honours: Leinster Youths, U19s & Ireland Youths
Shane is coming off a stellar season with Wicklow RFC, earning promotion to Leinster league 1A. He has now fully committed to DUFC and is looking to lock down a place in the starting XV. Hopefully Shane can transfer his impressive numbers he shifts in the gym onto College Park for the coming season.

Richard Dunne

Richie is a skilful back rower that also loves the contact. He had a great debut season with DUFC, featuring for both the U20s and First XV. We look forward to Richie featuring in the UBL this season. He is a great man for a night out, having been introduced to Copper Face Jacks last season.

Sebastian Fromm

Centre // 6’0 // 96kg
Studying: Human Health & Disease
School/Club: Clongowes Wood College
Honours: Germany 7s, Leinster U20s
Seb has developed his game through playing 7s with Germany in tournaments like the Hong Kong Sevens. We are looking forward to Seb making his 1A debut for Trinity this season. He is a powerful inside centre that loves to carry the ball, his power also comes to fruition in defence where he loves to smash opposition players. Seb is quite the ladies’ man and is often spotted on coffee dates around the college.

Rowan Osborne

Scrum-Half // 5’7 // 72kg
Studying: Engineering
School/Club: Clongowes Wood College
Honours: Ireland U18s, Leinster U19s & U20s
Rowan is coming off the back of a super debut season with the Senior XV. Despite his small stature, Ro has a talent in wriggling through tackles and avoiding oncoming tacklers. He is a great personality in the squad and has been given nicknames like ‘spits’. We are hoping that his raw speed leaves interior defences for dead this season. An interesting fact Rowan is that he is a massive advocate for Wenger Out.
