AIL LUNCH – APRIL 15, 2017 D.U.F.C. v TERENURE SPEAKER; DAVID BOBBETT
12.30pm for 1pm
The Pavilion, College Park
A TCD graduate (Class of 1980), David is one of Ireland’s most successful businessmen.
He is CEO and majority shareholder of H&K International (“HKI”) which, head quartered in Ireland, makes all the bespoke kitchens for 20,000-plus McDonalds, Burger King and KFC restaurants around the world.
Having graduated from Trinity in 1980, David qualified with KPMG before leading a management buyout in 2002 – days before its biggest customer stopped spending money. He nonetheless managed to guide the business through that and has turned it into one of the world’s biggest stainless steel kitchen providers.
David has self confessedly noted “I attend every sporting event I can”. He developed his interest in rugby from his father who was very involved with Bective and so he attended all 1st XV matches when he was young and his hero growing up was the great Bill Mulcahy. He also has an interest in horse racing, enjoying ownership of some horses.
His strongest memory of Trinity is of “being an oasis in the middle of town and spending my time doing things which I enjoyed, whether playing cards, watching matches or heading to the Pavilion and controlling my own time”.
After a health scare, he set up IHDA (Irish Heart Disease Awareness). The Irish Heart Disease Awareness charity has been established to raise awareness of heart disease as a progressive, measurable and treatable disease that can be detected by a simple calcification test.
The above, coupled with his current support of Terenure and his reputation as a very interesting speaker, leave us looking forward to having David back in College as our guest speaker for this lunch.
