A native of Limerick Eddie was schooled at Rockwell College where he captained the JCT and SCT sides along with representing and captaining the Munster Schools team for two years.
Eddie attended UCC for four years where he represented the “Skull and Crossbones” along with the Combined Universities.
During his time at UCC, Eddie gained his first Munster cap against the touring Springboks in 1970 who were the last South African team to tour Ireland until the end of apartheid. He went on to represent Munster until 1979, including the match against the Wallabies in 1976. Eddie also represented the Ireland B team in 1975.
After UCC Eddie returned to Limerick where he played with Garryowen and was captain in 1976. Once his playing days were finished he went on to coach the Garryowen first XV for two years in the 1980s and became club President for the millennium year.
Forby the above, Eddie has been a great supporter of D.U.F.C. and his son Eddie was the captain of the first D.U.F.C. U20s All Ireland Cup winning team before becoming a stalwart of the club for many years. Eddie Jnr is now one of the “1854 Ambassadors” and is assisting us in looking to create the framework for a “social, career and business networked 1854 diaspora”.
