Terenure 30pts Trinity 23pts. August 29th 2015
Trinity faced a tough challenge when they visited Division 1A runners up Terenure on Saturday.
Trinity, who had a close game against Naas last week, stepped up to the challenge and dominated the game for long periods without really putting their superiority on the scoreboard.
Trinity with the wind and the slope in their favor took an early lead through out half Oisin Brady who kicked from 35 metres out. Terenure came back to score a try off a line out close in. Brady came back to score again 6-5 to the students.
Trinity then established field position and after several quick-fire phases hooker Jack Boland ran a great line to run in under the posts. Brady converted to give Trinity a 13-5 lead. Boland followed this effort with his second try when he burst through the defence to score again after more phases of attack by Trinity.
Terenure were clearly struggling with the pace of the game, but the Students gave them a gift-wrapped interception for the home team to score.
Trinity were then punished again and Terenure kicked two penalties to put them 20-18 down at half time.
In the second half the teams struggled as the defences got on top. Terenure had more field position with the wind in their favour. They kicked a penalty to go ahead, but after going close to scoring a try, Brady kicked a penalty to regain the lead for the students.
Terenure then kicked three penalties to close out the game as they punished sloppy play by the students.
Hopefully this game will stand to Trinity who had their moments to win the game. They are still lacking the consistency to put good teams away.
They next visit AIL League rivals St Marys College in Leinster League pool played at Templeville Road.
Trinity 2nds lost to Terenure in a torrential downpour 32-24. This game was a total washout in farcical conditions.
