St Mary’s 10pts Trinity 14pts – 5th September 2015

Trinity travelled to Templeville Road for their last Leinster League group game.

On a rare sunny hot day St Mary’s dominated the first half but failed to put away a Student team who were missing some of their experienced players through injury.

St Mary’s went 10-0 up and should have scored at least two more tries if they had executed. Trinity struggled to get any continuity in the first half as errors killed their game. Scrum half Angus Lloyd did score a well taken try after debutant *8 Niall O’Riordan put him away from the base of a scrum. 10-7 at half time.

In the second half, with the wind, Trinity got a bit more field position and came more into the game. St Mary’s kept the ball much better than the Students who defended stoutly.

But as the half wore on the home team visibly tired, and the Students dominated the last 25 minutes. Trinity managed to score after some very effective rugby off a line out and wing Kingsley McGowan scored from close in.

Trinity probably could have gone further ahead in the last few minutes but the error count just kept mounting.

Trinity now play Blackrock College in the first round of the All Ireland league in Stradbrook at 7.30pm on Friday night September 11th. After this Trinity will travel over to Oxford to participate in the World Universities Cup in what should be a great experience.

Trinity 2nd XV lost 20-19 to St Marys 2nds.

Trinity 3rds squad lost 26-21 to Guinness in another Friendly. It is great that the club can put out three squads three before College starts.
