APPOINTMENT OF STUDENT OFFICERS – SEASON 2016/17

Dublin University Football Club (“D.U.F.C.”) is the oldest rugby club in the world in continuous existence and the home of “Trinity Rugby”. It competes in the All Ireland League 1A, fields 7 teams (6 mens and 1 ladies) and has a strategic objective of maintaining its status as a prehttp://wordpress-89041-249592.cloudwaysapps.com/wp-admin/profile.phpmier Irish and world class University Rugby Club.

 Accordingly the Club is appointing 2 Student Officers for the 2016/17 season:

Student Officer – Mens Rugby                              

Student Officer – Women’s Rugby

 Due to a change in circumstances these are UNREMUNERATED ROLES.

 They are an outstanding opportunity to gain experience of organisational management and administration as key contributors to and members of the Rugby Committee of the Club.

 The goal of the D.U.F.C. (Trinity Rugby) internship program is to foster the development of management skills by holding the incumbent responsible for agreed goals and specific operational responsibility in the running of the operations of the Club. Both interns will gain valuable and hands-on experience in a variety of areas within Trinity Rugby. Respective Role Profiles are set out separately and will benefit from a performance management/ mentoring/ provision of a CV reference process attaching to the positions. A reference with regard to the performance of each of the interns will be available on request for presentation to potential employers. Applicants must be members of the Club and preference will go to those whose CV and evidenced commitment to and work for the Club to date is felt by the General Manager, the Hon Secretary and the Director of Rugby of the Club to equip them best for the role.

Appointment is by election at the Club’s May A.G.M. but, given the importance of the roles in the Club management framework, candidates will only be put forward for election following the recommendation of the above officers and officials of the Club. In this regard the Captain of the Women’s Rugby 1st XV will be the sole nominee for the Student Officer -Women’s Rugby role.

STUDENT OFFICER – Men’s Rugby

 

SUMMARY ROLE PROFILE

ROLE PURPOSE

Dublin University Football Club (“D.U.F.C.”) is the oldest rugby club in the world in continuous existence and the home of “Trinity Rugby”. It competes in the First Division of the All Ireland League, fields 7 teams (6 male and 1 Ladies) and has a strategic objective of maintaining its status as a premier Irish and world class University rugby club.

A successful organisation needs a best in class management framework supporting the organisation in its delivery of its strategic objectives.

The role of the proposed Student Officer is that of becoming part of the Rugby Committee management team that is responsible both for managing the day to day operations of the Club and also for assisting the Executive Management Committee of the Club in shaping and delivering the Club’s strategic objectives and action plans.

MAIN ACTIVITIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES

 The Student Officer – Men’s Rugby will proactively:

Assist in:

  • General Club Administration
  • Player membership administration
  • Event management, marketing and promotion – including creation and capture of Club news and blog content
  • Fund raising and sponsorship (under guidance of the Sponsorship Committee)
  • Maintenance and upgrading of the Club’s systems such as, but not exclusively, the Club’s database and CRM systems
  • Recruitment processes
  • Team management issues generally such as kit management and administration related to away matches and tours
  • Through direct engagement and participation in the Men’s teams, liaison with regard to the Club’s vision statements “A unique university rugby experience” and “A Club for Life”.
  • The assimilation of and communication of Men’s player issues at the Rugby Committee.
  • Compliance with the Club policies
  • Supporting, as required, the activities of the sub committees of the Executive Management Committee
  • Maintaining the culture and ethos of DUFC/Trinity Rugby.

COMMITTEE REPRESENTATION

Rugby Committee – the Student Officer – Men’s Rugby’s prime role will be as a member of the Club’s Rugby Committee, which meets fortnightly and on an adhoc basis as required.

Executive Management Committee sub committees – support role as required.

OPPORTUNITY 

Trinity Rugby is run by the Executive Management Committee, which is comprised of individuals with extensive business and professional experience. This Committee is in turn accountable to a Trustee Committee. The EMC has a number of sub committees, including the Rugby Committee.

This will provide an opportunity for Student Officers, under experienced business and professional mentors, to develop their skills and experience within a quasi business environment – and also accumulate learnings from proactive involvement in the structured planning, innovating, reporting, and governance activities involved in managing a successful entity.

With a “light” performance evaluation structure (below) it is envisaged that personal development and CV references will be key benefits for the Student Officer who performs well in this role.

REPORTING

The Student Officer will be a prime report of the Club General Manager.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • “Go to” knowledge of and working capability on word, excel and other prime software.
  • Minimum 2 years membership of D.U.F.C. and participation in Men’s teams
  • Good written skills
  • Capacity to innovate and be creative in delivery/ support of the Club’s strategic objectives
  • Collaborative skills and ability to work in a team and motivate others
  • Ability to contribute to an environment of positivity and well being
  • Ability to work in an organized way and communicate coherently, in both verbal and in short report form, on progress made against objectives and on key issues arising

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT

The Club General Manager will provide a “light” performance development and evaluation framework. This will assist the Student Officer in developing his skillset and CV content/ references.
