“I would like to thank @DUFCRUGBY for the big part they played in my development. Without their help, these opportunities would not have come about”

Tony inspires young people. It’s not by accident Trinity are as good as they are. You are in a pretty special place in the world

Jamie Heislip, D.U.F.C. , Leinster, Ireland, British & Irish Lions

Lucky to have played in great colusseums of rugby around the world – College park in the heart of the City is still my favourite!

Trevor Hogan, D.U.F.C., Munster, Leinster and Ireland

D.U.F.C. is a family – in a way no other University matches

Eric O'Sullivan, D.U.F.C and ULSTER

Tony Smeeth is huge in Trinity and had a great impact and influence on me as a player. Hugh McGuire as well – there’s nothing Hugh likes more than 40 minutes of live scrums ona Tuesday night and that definitely hardens you up as a player. Tony was the first Coach I worked with who played with real structures and patterns, something everyone needs to be able to comprehend and run through to perform at a high level. the Trinity Academy that he has developed is definitely a great alternative to the provincial academies. You come in in the mornings and do the gym thing and, as you would in the academies/sub academies, come back in the evenings for the pitch sessions. They can get so much time with players. For younger guys in College you need to be able to put on size in the Under 20s before you can compete in the AIL. The Academy program makes it one of the best clubs in the country.   See full interview on The ClubScene Podcast at https://t.co/sPwbUqS51R

“Watching Trinity play is much more enjoyable than a lot of Pro14 games”

Joe McCarthy

“They are fantastic, especially when you’re young. It’s straight into senior rugby, it’s physical. And in the AIL, it’s class. When you are with Ireland and Leinster you’re in a system the way you play to show your strengths, but in the AIL you can try a few things, practice these little skills, try a few things that maybe other coaches would give out to you, where you have more licence in your club team. Tony Smeeth and Hugh Maguire especially were fantastic for my development.”

ABOUT US

Dublin University Football Club is the oldest club in the world in continuous existence. Football, which may have come to Ireland from Britain, was originally a peasant pastime based on the parish or village. It was unregulated and violent, and fatal accidents occurred during matches with alarming frequency. One challenge between neighbouring villages in Co. Derry read, ‘for the Late Sleepers to come over on [a certain Sunday] and kick the Early Risers’ – See more
